MMSD Invites Community to Celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month

The Madison Metropolitan School District (MMSD) is excited to welcome the Greater Madison community to a celebration in honor of Hispanic Heritage Month on Saturday, Sept. 7, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., at Centro Hispano of Dane County (2403 Cypress Way).

In addition to live music, entertainment and food, the event will provide an opportunity for attendees to meet the district’s new superintendent, Dr. Joe Gothard and other staff, as well as learn about the district’s literacy initiatives, multilingual education offerings, high school programs and pathways, college financial aid options and other resources (e.g., foodservice, transportation, enrollment) geared toward student support. Madison Reading Project will also be providing free children’s books to all interested attendees.

“MMSD is a mosaic of dozens of cultures, stories and traditions, all of which we seek to honor and uplift in service of our students and their families,” said Cindy Green, the district’s assistant superintendent of teaching and learning. “This event is about recognizing Hispanic heritage in the spirit of joy, belonging and togetherness, and we hope that all will join us to celebrate in community.”

Limited parking is available on site; additional parking will be available at the following locations: 810 W. Badger Road, 2401 S. Park Street (Park Bank) and 2429 Perry Street (Madison College).
