Fall Sports Highlights: Celebrating Student-Athlete Successes

As the fall sports season comes to a close, we celebrate the remarkable achievements of our student-athletes across all schools. 

“With conference play wrapping up and postseason awards being announced, it’s clear that hard work and dedication have paid off,” said Jeremy Schlitz, MMSD’s director of district athletics. 

Here are some of the standout performances from our fall sports teams:

Girls Golf

The West team and Teya Capps from La Follette made a strong performance at sectionals. Additionally, Ezabell Yu from West received accolades as a 1st Team selection for the Big 8 Conference.

Girls Tennis

Our tennis teams showcased impressive talent, with West's doubles teams Sarah Goetz/Lilah Dean and  Isabelle Gao/Gabrielle Tiberi qualifying for State, alongside Grace Huang representing West in singles.

Football

Memorial football secured an impressive 2nd place finish in the Big 8 Conference with an 8-1 record and is set to compete in the Level 2 playoffs on Nov. 1 at 7 p.m. against DC Everest, following a strong opening-round victory over Stevens Point Area Senior High. 
Notable All Big 8 first-team members include:

  • Offensive Player of the Year: Marion Moore (Memorial)
  • Quarterback of the Year: Owen Fiedler (Memorial)
  • Offensive Back of the Year: Kam Parker (Memorial) 
  • Inside Linebacker of the Year: De'Jion Steele (West)
  • Wide Receiver of the Year: Marion Moore (Memorial)
  • Tight End/Fullback of the Year: Elijah Richmond (West) 
  • Punter of the Year: Ian Ladd (West) 
  • Assistant Coach of the Year: Ty Mahone (West)

Coaching accolades go to Ty Mahone from Madison West, who was named Assistant Coach of the Year.

  • Offensive Linemen: Wyatt Schauder (Memorial), Truman Mankowski (La Follette), Nico Vultaggio (Memorial) 
  • Tight End/Fullback: Elijah Richmond (West) 
  • Quarterback: Owen Fiedler (Memorial) 
  • Offensive Back: Kam Parker (Memorial) 
  • Wide Receivers: Marion Moore (Memorial) and Ty Aparicio (Memorial) 
  • Defensive Interior Lineman: Truman Mankowski (La Follette)
  • Inside Linebackers: De'Jion Steele (West) and Blake Adams (Memorial)
  • Outside Linebacker: Ben Morrison Phillips (Memorial) 
  • Defensive Backs: Marion Moore (Memorial) and Cashes Bufford (Memorial) 
  • Punter: Ian Ladd (West)

Boys Soccer

In an exciting matchup, East and West faced off in the sectional semifinal at Mansfield Stadium on Oct. 31, with West winning 3-0. Special recognition goes to Liam Cahill from Madison West, who was named Co-Player of the Year in the Big 8 Conference. Additional first-team members include:

Boys Volleyball

The West team triumphed over Memorial in the sectional semifinal, advancing to the final against Middleton on Nov. 2 at 7 p.m. at Memorial for a chance to reach State. Notable All Big 8 first-team honorees include:

Girls Volleyball

Memorial geared up for a sectional semifinal match against Holmen at DeForest on Oct. 31, but ultimately lost 0-3. Standout players include Kayla Shelton and Paige Williams, both selected to the All Big 8 1st Team.

Cross Country

We are proud to announce our state qualifiers: Mason Bieri and Oren Garvey Shah from East, and Will Lisowski-Semb and Nick Zietlow from Memorial. Additionally, West had two teams that qualified and  both captured the Big 8 Conference Championship!

Girls Swim

Girls swim teams are preparing for a busy tournament series, starting with the conference competition on Nov. 2 and 3, followed by sectionals and state meets.
